Hi, Neil,

I have been following your blog since you joined the A's organization. A baseball player who reads and likes poetry, I am impressed. I hope your spring is going well. I will be at A's spring training for 6 days starting on the 17th. I'll look for you. I'd like to meet you.

Check out my blog with an A's flavor at http://contractyear.mlblogs.com.

I don't just "report" on the A's. I write in-depth articles on anything in baseball that piques my interest, including the minor leagues, and even indy ball. Check it out. (You'll see from my picture that I was not hitting on you when I said I'd like to meet you. I'm old enough to be your grandmother!) Maybe I can do an article on you and your fellow pitchers on my blog.

Hope to see you in Phoenix.

Hi, Neil,

I really enjoyed reading your post above. You sound like a pretty intellectual guy, which explains why you're a pitcher. I am an avid A's fan and welcome you to the A's organization. I know that www.m5ind@gmail.com misses the opportunity to see you pitch in a Tribe uni, but his loss is obviosly our gain. I'll check our your AFL article.

I write an A's blog (really a baseball blog with emphasis on the A's) at www.contractyear.mlblogs.com. Check it out. Maybe I'll track you down at Spring Training next year. I'd love to interview you for my blog. Let me know what you think (beebee723@comcast.net).

Good luck in the playoffs. I'll follow you and the Hounds and wish you all the best of luck.

Hey Neil. Not sure if you read these comments that get posted, but I just figured I'd say something here. It's always been neat to see what a guy working his way through the minors has to say, and of course your bits of poetry are always a good touch. I was disappointed to see you shipped to the A's, being an Indians fan I'd looked forward to you being in a tribe uniform someday. Hopefully someday we'll see you pitch against us. In any case, keep the blog up, and good luck on your trek.

Neil.

I applaud your blog. I cheer your devotion to your baseball career. And I am delighted to find an athlete who not only writes with eloquence but also revels in poetry. Truly, as I lack the talent for baseball, I wish I had the skill and discipline you exhibit with word craft and taste in verse. I read back a bit. If you enjoyed On the Road, I suggest you give Kerouac's Desolation Angels a go. Old Jack was a hardball fan (but not a good poet, in my opinion). I also enjoyed your selection of Sailing to Byzantium (hearkens back to my final year in the Creative Writing major) and Baudelaire ( a truer poem I've yet to find, even if I cannot find myself drunk with anything other than nihlism). But the greatest treasure is your willingness to share your experiences on and off the field and in literature.
I hope you don't mind but I linked your page to my pages blogroll. I used to try to keep a blog about literature and baseball but few read it and I couldn't keep up with samples of exclusive baseball verse, so it's more of a Marlins fan site now. Cheers to you!

Katchner Cave (Benson, AZ) is a great cave and the Chiricahua Mountain( Southeast of Wilcox)s offer great back packing both in Southeastern AZ south of I 10 and east of Tuscon. Only a couple of hours from Carlsbad and the cave is a living cave. The area has a lot of history - near Tombstone and Apache hiding areas. BTW any thoughts you can share on your former teammates problem in Akron - Tomlin et al.
